Travelling and Tourism
1)Let’s talk about travelling and
tourism. What role do they play in your life?
2)How do you like to travel?
Modern life
is impossible without travelling. It′s always interesting to discover new
things and other ways of life, to meet different people, taste different food,
examine various architectural styles, visit museums and picture galleries. It′s
common knowledge that travelling is a key to understanding other cultures and a
wonderful opportunity to learn more about the world we live in. Some people
travel for business or just for pleasure. So, it′s difficult to imagine modern
life without travelling.
To begin
with, there are many types of tourism: adventure tourism, agritourism, cultural
tourism, educational tourism, health or culinary tourism and a lot more. You
can choose any type of tourism according to your taste. Nowadays even space
tourism has become a reality. There are a lot of people who want to fly into
space and to visit other planets.
Secondly,
nowadays people can travel in different ways: on foot, by train, by plane, by
ship or by car.
For most
people, speed is a very important factor when they are travelling. They
want to reach their destination as quickly as possible. There are now
planes that can cross the Atlantic in just over three hours.
Other
people prefer comfort to speed. They like to relax during the journey and enjoy
themselves as much as possible.
For almost
everyone, safety is the most important factor. For instance, many people never
fly because they believe it is dangerous. In fact, it is probably much
more dangerous to travel by car or to walk across the street.
Of course,
travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the
most expensive too. But you can’t but mention that there is none of the
dust and dirt of a railway or car journey. For most people there is
nothing like travelling by air.
Travelling
by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can see much
more interesting places of the country you are travelling through. Modern
trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping cars and dining
cars which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and
safety are the main advantages of trains and planes. That is why many people
prefer them to all other means.
Travelling
by sea is popular mostly for pleasure trips. Onboard large ships and small
river boats people can visit foreign countries and different
places of interest within their own countries. You feel the deck of the
boat under your feet and seethe rise and fall of the waves. You
feel the fresh sea windblowing in the face and hear the cry of the
seagull.
As for me I
prefer travelling by car, I think it's very convenient. You
needn't book your tickets. You needn't carry heavy suitcases. You can
stop wherever you wish and spend at any place as much time as you like.
Every year my friends and I go by car somewhere to rest and enjoy ourselves.
3)What
questions should you ask a travel agent to learn more about a tour?
1) How much
does this tour cost?
2) How long
does the tour last?
3) What
hotel shall we stay in?
4) What
sights shall we visit during the tour?
5) What
problems can we face during this tour?
4)What can
you advise a person who doesn’t know where to spend his/her holiday?
Travelling
has long been considered to be the best way of spending one′s holidays. There
are many ways of travelling, but I think that students should prefer cycling
and hiking to all others. Travelling fast, one doesn’t see enough of the
country through which he passes. Besides, a train, a car or a plane is no
better than home as it affords little chance for exercising our muscles.
While
travelling by bicycle or on foot, we spend much of our time in the open air,
see new places and understand the history and culture of our country much
better than we do by reading books.
If it′s
summer time, it is good to spend the holidays swimming, fishing and camping by
the seaside. On the one hand, swimming is a very healthy exercise. On the other
hand, camping teaches young people a great deal about everyday life.
To sum it
up, travelling is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the world we live
in.
5)What
difficulties can you have when visiting a foreign country? Is it possible to
avoid them?
When we go
traveling, we think of fun, free and enjoyable moments. However, sometimes it
is really inevitable that we encounter problems while traveling. Even
though we really hope for the best when we go out and travel, problems still
occur and it does not always go as smoothly as we hoped. But don’t worry! It is
always possible to avoid them.
1) Lost
luggage
Losing your belongings can also ruin your trip. Fortunately, there are a few
ways to help if you’re put in this situation. First, always pack the most
important items in your carry on. That way if your checked luggage gets lost at
least you have what you need to survive. Also, make sure you have name tags on
all your suitcases with your contact information so that if your lost luggage
is found they will know who it belongs to.
2) Weather
There is
nothing you can do to control the weather on your trip. Bad
weather isn’t ideal for traveling but you shouldn’t let it
ruin your trip. Check the forecast before leaving so that you can pack
accordingly.
3) Lost
passport or wallet
The worst
thing that could probably happen to you is losing your passport or wallet while
traveling. The issue can leave you stranded in foreign countries with no
identification or money. If you lose your passport be sure you contact the
local embassy or consulate. It’s wise to always keep a photocopy of your
passport and i.d. while traveling as a backup. Keep the photocopies separate
from originals; use these instead of the real ones for when you’re out and
about and need to show copies. That way you don’t risk having them fall out of
your bag, get stolen, or misplace them! Also, if you know that you are going to
an unsecured, crowded or a rowdy place, just leave your passport in the hotel
and just bring with you a photocopy of your passport. If it’s your wallet that
goes missing then contact your bank to cancel credit or debit cards and to find
out how to get cash if needed.
4) Do you
speak English?
If you want
to avoid the problem of misunderstanding you should know the language of the
country, its customs and common laws.
5) Where am
I?!
You can′t
get lost if you have a map and know the address of your hotel.
Have a nice
and safe trip! I hope that everything will be fine!
